More driving laws? No pets on your lap!

April 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As of July 1st, California drivers will no longer be able to talk on their cell phones without a handsfree device, and, more notoriously, smoking won’t be allowed inside a vehicle when a minor is present.

Now Assemblyman Bill Maze (R-Barstow) is proposing a law “that would make it an infraction for people to drive holding an animal in their arms or lap.” From NBC 11 in San Francisco:

A recent AAA study ranked pets and loose objects as a bigger distraction for drivers than cell phone use, eating and drinking.

Clearly Maze hasn’t seen Clint Eastwood’s finest film, “Any Which Way But Loose,” proving that orangutan’s not only know their rights from their lefts, but can drive big rigs.
