John Edwards admits he was lying when he denied an affair with filmmaker Rielle Hunter, according to an interview he gave to ABC News’ Bob Woodruff which will air later tonite. Edwards added he doesn’t believe he’s the father of Rielle’s child, believing he had ended the affair before the baby would have been conceived.
Two weeks ago, National Enquirer claimed to have confronted Edwards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, describing Edwards as taking efforts to enter and exit the hotel without notice for a visit with Rielle Hunter and her baby.
Late last year, the Enquirer had accused Edwards of having an affair with Rielle, a filmmaker who had made campaign videos for him. Prior to the accusations, the videos had been removed from Edwards website without explanation, which many bloggers believed was evidence of an affair. Edwards denied the affair repeatedly.
“The story is false. It’s completely untrue, ridiculous,” Edwards said when the first allegations hit. “Anyone who knows me knows that I have been in love with the same woman for 30-plus years.” [from The Hill]
-Scott Martelle at LA Times political blog “Top of the Ticket” has posted the news, the first mention of the affair since the Times editorial told its bloggers not to discuss the subject.

For some reason, I find this entire debacle hugely entertaining. I guess that’s how low our society has fallen.
