Photo of the week: A Governor’s house divided

June 14, 2008 · No Comments

New York Times photog J. Emilio Flores caught this pic of the front gate of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s home, showing support for both McCain and Obama.

Republican Arnold is backing McCain, while wife Maria Shriver has been a vocal Obama supporter. The kids are also in on it: “”The girls were for Hillary, and now they are with Obama,” the governor said. “The boys are more with McCain.”

The lawn of their Brentwood home has dueling campaign signs. The breakfast table has become a casual debating society. Shriver is even threatening to bring a life-size cutout of her preferred candidate into the house, something the governor has seen her do in other elections. “When one of the candidates screws up,” Schwarzenegger said of the cutouts, “the kids carry them outside.”

The International Herald Tribune has the full story.

Duh, what?

On a sidenote, VH-1 reaired “The 40 Dumbest Celebrity Quotes Ever,” and guess who was at #1, beating Britney Spears with, “I get to go overseas places, like Canada,” and even Tara Reid with, “I make Jessica Simpson look like a rock scientist?”

Arnold Schwarzenegger himself, with, “I think that gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman.”

One comedian defended Arnold by suggesting he was referring to gay marriages like the one between Liza Minelli and David Gest.

HuffPo’s Top 10 celebrity Obama and Clinton supporters…

April 20, 2008 · 2 Comments

There’s no mistaking some sort of bias on the side of the Huffington Post editorial staff over the Democratic Presidential candidates. As evidence, take a peek at their top 10 lists of celebrity supporters for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton:

Obama has Scarlett Johansson on his side. Clinton has the other Boleyn girl, Natalie Portman. Fair enough.

DeNiro has Obama’s back… Nicholson has Clinton’s… tough call on who’d win in a bar fight.

Beyond that, the matches get pretty ugly.

For power couples, Obama has “the Kennedy women” - Caroline Kennedy and Maria Shriver, vs. Clinton’s team of Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.

And while Obama’s list had no apparent trouble being stacked with George Clooney, Samuel Jackson, and, of course, Oprah Winfrey, Clinton somehow had space to fit celebrity blogger Perez Hilton into their top 10 list.

Ouch.

Complete lists follow. (more…)

Now that his wife’s medical files were looked at, Schwarzenegger probes health leaks

April 7, 2008 · 1 Comment

Days after the LA Times reported that Maria Shriver was among the celebrity health files that starstruck UCLA staffers peeked at, the Governor has announced he’s looking into the privacy breaches.

Hospitals need to develop procedures to protect patient information “if they’re celebrities, if they’re business executives, or just ordinary citizens,” Schwarzenegger said. “Everyone’s file ought to be protected, and everyone’s medical history ought to be protected. That is the responsibility of the hospital, and so we’re going to go work with them to find a way so that we can help them protect everyone’s files.” [from Capitol Alert]

While the concern is understandable, I’m trying to find any indication of where Schwarzenegger has stood on privacy issues before now, such as his view of the Patriot Act. If anyone knows of a source, please let me know… On the Issues seemed like a good start, but offered no insight.
