Nominate the next Mayor of Hollywood!

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the leading candidates to replace Johnny Grant’s position as the Mayor of Hollywood are Monty Hall, Gary Owens, and Angelyne.

Monty Hall, best known as the host the “Let’s Make a Deal” game show, has already declined the position, and actually served a previous term in the role.

Gary Owens, the legendary spokesman for “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In” known for coining the terms “beautiful downtown Burbank,” “Romantic Reseda,” and “Magnificent Monrovia,” has said he’s enthusiastically accept the post. His first order of business would be coming up with a Hollywood catchphrase.

And Angelyne is best known for trying to make herself known by putting herself on billboards around L.A.

While I can’t argue much with the choice of Owens, I still think there’s room for additional brainstorming. What about Pee-Wee Herman, Christopher “Superman” Dennis, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson, or even City Councilman Tom LaBonge?

The Mayorship is an honorary, unpaid title that mainly requires appearances at Walk of Fame star unveilings. Its also not up for vote – the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will choose Johnny Grant’s successor whenever they’re good and ready.

Still, I’d love to hear more ideas from readers. Anyone?

  1. “magnificent monrovia” now there’s a spin I haven’t heard yet. Do you have to live in Hollywood to get the job? If so I’d be in.

  2. Personally, I think that Angelyne represents Hollywood & Glamor & Image more than the others on this list. She’s got my Honorary Vote for Honorary Mayor of Hollywood.

When I bring this subject up with people I happen to chat with, they mostly agree. Women as well as men. I say good luck to Angelyne!
